Liz Lochhead is a Scottish poet and dramatist. Originally form North Lanarkshire, she was born on 26th December, 1947. After studying at Glasgow School of Art she became a teacher and subsequently a professional writer. During the 1970s she was a member of Philip Hobsbaum's writer's group, alongside Alasdair Gray, James Kelman and Tom Leonard. In January 2011, she was named as second Scots Makar, or national poet laureate to succeed Edwin Morgan who died in 2010.
