Devon babies get library card at birth registration (UK)
Newborn babies in Devon will be given a library membership card when their parents register their birth. The timeless membership card will be activated once the family visits a library in the county. Devon County Council (DCC) said it introduced the scheme to help children develop language and listening skills. Head of DCC Library service, Ciara Eastell said: "Research has consistently supported the advantages of early book sharing." She said: "It helps them develop concentration and stimulates their imagination as well as extending their language and listening skills." More than 6,300 new babies are registered in Devon each year - BBC
