New image showcase marks the Titanic launch centenary (UK)

New image showcase marks the Titanic launch centenary (UK)From The U.K. National Archives: Our latest image library showcase focuses on the fateful RMS Titanic, launched in Belfast 100 years ago. Taking three years to build, the ship was the largest moving man-made object in the world at the time, and entered Belfast Lough on 31 May 1911. Though believed to be 'unsinkable', the Titanic sank on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York in April 1912 after hitting an iceberg. The National Archives holds much unique and rare material relating to the ship and her last hours. See a selection of our documents and images in our showcase, and find out how you can purchase images. You can also find out more about our Titanic collections and listen to our podcast Titanic: the official story, which takes you through the history of the ship using a selection of documents from The National Archives
