This year we celebrate the 300th birthday of David Hume - the most important philosopher to write in English. In his lifetime, Hume enjoyed a greater reputation across Europe as an historian. Back in his native Edinburgh, in the 1750s he was Keeper of the Advocates Library, predecessor of the National Library of Scotland. Today NLS is a centre of Hume scholarship, with important collections of his correspondence, papers and books. Highlights from these will be on display until June 28, 2011
