The Public Library Association has named Donna Nicely, director of Nashville Public Library, winner of the 2009 Charlie Robinson Award. Established in 1997, The Charlie Robinson Award honors a public library director who has been a "risk taker, innovator and change agent in a public library." Nashville's public library system includes the downtown Main Library and 20 branch libraries where a collection of 2 million items including books, periodicals, DVDs, CDs and downloadable audio books and movies are available. The library also offers more than 600 public-use computers, free art exhibits, cultural and educational programs, a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week online "Ask a Librarian" service, online databases to assist in everything from genealogical to market research and an active interlibrary book loan program - The Tennessean
