The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded a $300,000 grant to Yale University Library for preservation of its Salisbury Collection. The Salisbury Collection at Yale began in 1870 with a gift from Edward Elbridge Salisbury, the first professor of Arabic Languages and Culture at Yale College. It has grown over the years into a comprehensive collection of foundational works on Islamic law, history, religion, science, mathematics and poetry, along with a large collection of European imprints that document European scholars' first systematic study of Arab religions, language and cultures

The National Library of the Philippines has launched the Philippine eLib. The site features a collection of more than 800,000 bibliographical records from the National Library's archives. There are 29,000 full-text journals and 150,000 theses and dissertations, many of which are being preserved and cannot be borrowed. Currently, there are over 25 million pages of international and local materials that can be viewed for free through the eLib website

Work is due to start on a state-of-the-art themed entertainment/visitor attraction based on the life, times and books of Charles Dickens at the South East England Development Agency's flagship Chatham Maritime site. Construction of the Dickens World entertainment attraction is expected to begin in the next two months and it is anticipated that the Odeon operated multiplex-cinemas, together with bars and restaurants will open in October 2006, followed by the opening of the Dickens World visitor attraction in April 2007
