1960s Britain: a view from the archives (UK)

1960s Britain: a view from the archives (UK)From UK National Archives: An exciting new document collection on 1960s Britain has been launched for teachers and students on our Education site. The collection contains over 40 documents relating to protest, youth culture, women and employment, the economy, fashion, modernism, new technology, race relations, and the Profumo affair. Also included is a photograph of the newly completed Post Office Tower, a telegram on the Apollo moon landings, a letter about the impact of Beatlemania, a report on mods and rockers, and letters from Mary Whitehouse to Prime Minister Harold Wilson. All these documents are contextualised by an introduction to the period by historian Dominic Sandbrook. Providing unique primary sources on the era, the purpose of the collection is to allow history students and teachers to develop their own questions and lines of historical enquiry on the social and cultural aspects of 1960s Britain
