Bodleian illuminated manuscripts now online
"The Bodleian Library has announced the release of the online collection of Medieval Manuscripts and Early Printed Books. Glasgow School of Art Mackintosh digitisation project
The Glasgow School of Art has recently completed a project to digitise Charles Rennie Mackintosh's sketchbook of Northern Italy. The sketchbook relates to part of a tour of Italy undertaken by the Scottish architect in 1891. The project was funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and GSA. The project website also includes up to date photographs of the buildings sketched by Mackintosh

The Society of Authors Authors' Awards 2008
Annual awards and prizes judged by writers and hosted by the Society of Authors. More than GBP70,000 in prize money was presented to twenty-three writers on Wednesday 18 June 2008 at a reception held in the Great Hall at Bart's in West Smithfield. Booktime - June 2008 press release
"Booktrust has announced that over two million free books will be given to every reception-aged pupil and Year 7 pupil in England by Christmas 2008. The Booktime programme for reception-aged pupils (4-5 years old) and Booked Up programme for Year 7 pupils (aged 11-12), are both run by the independent national charity Booktrust, with the aim of encouraging reading for pleasure. The programmes are supported by the DCSF (Department for Children, Schools and Families) with an allocation of over GBP4m, making both programmes free to all participating schools"

"Bloomsday is a commemoration observed annually on 16 June in Dublin and elsewhere to celebrate the life of Irish writer James Joyce and relive the events in his novel Ulysses, all of which took place on the same day in Dublin in 1904. The day is a secular holiday in Ireland. The name derives from Leopold Bloom, the protagonist of Ulysses, and 16 June was the date of Joyce's first outing with his wife-to-be, Nora Barnacle, when they walked to the Dublin village of Ringsend"

"The Journal of Legal Analysis is now accepting submissions. Tentatively scheduled to begin publication in the Fall of 2008, the JLA aspires to publish the best of legal scholarship. The JLA welcomes social scientific research, but will not limit itself to such work. Instead, the journal will publish law-related articles from all disciplinary perspectives. "SAGE and Hindawi are have announced the launch of Human Genomics and Proteomics, the first title from the two companies' joint venture: SAGE-Hindawi Access to Research. Human Genomics and Proteomics (HGP) is a peer-reviewed international open access journal, affiliated with FINDbase: the National/Ethnic Mutation Database, documenting frequencies of causative mutations leading to inherited disorders in various populations worldwide. Kete Version 1.0 released
"Horowhenua Library Trust and Katipo Communications in New Zealand have annouced the release of Kete Version 1.0. Kete provides a platform for developing community contributed content. It allows uploading of different types of content: topics (html text based content), documents, audio files, images, movies and links. Kete is the Maori word for basket, in the Kete system a basket is the overall organising structure for content. Beyond baskets content is organised by the community using tagging and relating pieces of content to each other"
