James Carroll Scrapbook - 1916 to 1920
This scrapbook was compiled by James Michael Carroll while he was a student at The Catholic University of America (Washington, DC) from 1916 to 1920. He assembled this collection of photographs (many of which he took himself) and ephemera with a particular emphasis on the CUA baseball team (of which he was a member) and other athletic events at CUA. In addition to the photographs of CUA (which include the campus, students, and events), the scrapbook contains examples of exams, dance cards/books, tickets for different events/ attractions at CUA and in DC. These materials provide a glimpse into what student life was like during the early part of the twentieth century at CUA. This digital collection can be viewed in two different versions. Researchers can virtually "flip" through the pages of the scrapbook, viewing items in greater detail, and explore items included in the pages by clicking on highlighted items. Researchers can also browse images of the individual pages in the scrapbook in a more traditional format without the "flipping" effect. Each individual item in the scrapbook is indexed so that the collection can be searched using a variety of criteria. The Carroll Scrapbook was transferred to the CUA Archives as part of materials belonging to the CUA Department of Athletics
