Elsevier has announced the signing of a three year agreement with the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) in Egypt for the provision of scientific, technical and medical (STM) information that includes full access to all Elsevier electronic journals, over six million articles via ScienceDirect, and eight backfiles packages, including The Lancet
The journal Associates is an international forum for and about library support staff issues. Associates is published three times per year in March, July, and November. Previous subscribers to Associates need to subscribe again. The listserv that held the subscribers' addresses recently had a disaster that destroyed the Associates subscribers' lists
DSpace is a groundbreaking digital library system that captures, stores, indexes, preserves and redistributes the intellectual output of an organization's researchers in digital formats. DSpace version 1.2.1 is now available

EBSCOhost is now the only service through which researchers can gain access to the Scientific American Archive Online. The Scientific American Archive Online includes ongoing coverage for the publication in addition to backfile content beginning with the January 1993 issue
The Dagger in the Library is awarded to "the author of crime fiction whose work is giving the greatest enjoyment to readers", as nominated by UK libraries and Readers' Groups and judged by a panel of librarians. It emphasises the role played by libraries in providing an audience for authors whose careers are developing, so that nominations of authors whose discovery has particularly delighted readers (rather than established favourites) are especially welcome. The award is given for the body of an author's work, not for an individual title, and those nominated should be alive at the time of the nomination and preferably working in Britain. Net sales for the entire United States publishing industry are estimated to have increased by 1.3 percent from 2003 to 2004 to a grand total of $23.72 billion, according to figures just released by the Association of American Publishers. Overall, trade sales rose 1.9 percent, with sales of $5.16 billion. Adult trade hardbound gained 6.3 percent ($2.61 billion), while paperbound sales were also up 2.8 percent ($1.51 billion). Juvenile hardbound sales were down 16.7 percent ($581 million), however, paperbound sales were up 3.8 percent with sales of $465.6 million

Following a two-year test at the Woodland (CA) Public Library, an online fundraising program called Shop for the Library is now available at no charge for use by any US public library. Friends of the Library groups and library foundations may also participate. Every purchase initiated through the Shop for the Library website generates a commission for the library of the user's choice. SUNCAT is the pilot Serials UNion CATalogue for the UK. The pilot service includes records from 22 of the largest UK research libraries and the databases of the CONSER programme and the ISSN International network. Further libraries will be added continuously over the next two years. A full service will be launched in Autumn 2006. SUNCAT can be used to locate serials in contributing libraries. SUNCAT will also provide links to the web pages of contributing libraries so that users of this service can find the library addresses, phone numbers, opening hours and lending services
