Podcast: Charities and their records for family historians (UK)
Charities have been operating in many forms for nearly 800 years. They were at their most important in Victorian England where in some places they rivalled the poor law in providing for the unfortunate. Simon Fowler is a freelance researcher, historian and writer. He worked on and off at The National Archives/Public Record Office for over 30 years. Simon has found charity records fascinating ever since he studied them for a PhD
