The new service, called DOAR - the Directory of Open Access Repositories, will categorise and list the wide variety of Open Access research archives that have grown up around the world. Such repositories have mushroomed over the last 2 years in response to calls by scholars and researchers worldwide to provide open access to research information

A rare manuscript, part of the collection of The British Library, was most probably looted during the Nazi era and must be returned to its rightful owner. The manuscript, a Missal and calendar written in 'Beneventan' script, known as Benevento VI 29 or Egerton 3511, was looted from the Metropolitan Chapter of the Cathedral City of Benevento between 1943 and 1944, and was acquired by the British Museum in 1947. It was then transfered with the British Museum Library's collections to the British Library on its foundation in 1973

The Library of Congress has announced the release of the James Madison Papers, now available on the Library's American Memory Web site. They consist of approximately 12,000 items captured in some 72,000 digital images. They document the life of the man who came to be known as the "Father of the Constitution" through correspondence, personal notes, drafts of letters and legislation, an autobiography, legal and financial documents, and miscellaneous manuscripts

The LSRC simplifies scientists' daily workflow by providing a robust user interface to search diverse types of scientific, technical, and medical (STM) information and to identify relationships across traditionally disparate sources of content. The LSRC will utilize full-text searching of pre-processed STM content such as literature, patents, drug pipeline data, genes, technical protocols, laboratory products, and industry news
The Open Access Bibliography: Liberating Scholarly Literature with E-Prints and Open Access Journals presents over 1,300 selected English-language books, conference papers (including some digital video presentations), debates, editorials, e-prints, journal and magazine articles, news articles, technical reports, and other printed and electronic sources that are useful in understanding the open access movement's efforts to provide free access to and unfettered use of scholarly literature. Most sources have been published between 1999 and August 31, 2004; however, a limited number of key sources published prior to 1999 are also included. Where possible, links are provided to sources that are freely available on the Internet (approximately 78 percent of the bibliography's references have such links)

The Fedora Project has announced the release of version 2.0 of the Fedora open-source digital repository software. This release represents a significant increase in features and functionality over previous releases. New features include the ability to represent and query relationships among digital objects, a simple XML encoding for Fedora digital objects, enhanced ingest and export interfaces for interoperability with other repository systems, enhanced administrative features, and improved documentation. More than ever, Fedora is capable of serving as the foundation for many types of information management applications, including institutional repositories, digital libraries, records management systems, archives, and educational software
