On April 8, 2002, the National Archives of Canada acquired the
Peter Winkworth Collection, an extensive art collection containing a multitude of nationally significant, rare, and valuable records of the history and development of Canada. In acquiring this superb, unequalled collection, Canada has repatriated an important part of its cultural and historical heritage. It is the largest single acquisition of works of art this country has ever seen
