GPO.gov relaunched
GPO has announced the re-launch of its agency Web site. "This enhanced site includes separate Web pages for FDLP and LSCM information for the public. The new Web pages will help inform the public about and lead the public to Federal depository libraries. The redesigned site includes links to FDsys, GPO Access, the Catalog of U.S. Government Publications, the Federal Depository Library Directory, The FDLP Desktop, Ben's Guide, and more, as well as Web pages for each of the agency's departments"
2009 academic librarian salary survey results
The Association of College and Research Libraries, in collaboration with the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR), recently completed revisions to academic library position descriptions included in surveys covering salaries, benefits and other benchmarks
SPARC and ACRL announce Chicago ALA forum will focus on the economy
The next SPARC-ACRL forum on emerging issues in scholarly communication, to be held at the Chicago meeting of the American Library Association in July, will explore "Rough waters: Navigating hard times in the scholarly communication marketplace." The forum is co-sponsored by SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) and the Association of College and Research Libraries. The 19th biennial SPARC-ACRL Forum will be held July 11, 2009 from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM at the Sheraton Chicago. The ACRL Scholarly Communications discussion group, which offers a more intimate setting to explore forum topics in greater depth, will be held July 12, from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM at the Intercontinental Hotel

American Society for Microbiology makes research publications on influenza A (H1N1) freely available
"Because of the current public health emergency and worldwide concern about Influenza A H1N1 (swine flu), the American Society for Microbiology has made articles on H1N1 published within the past 6 months, November 2008 to May 2009, in ASM's Journal of Virology, Journal of Clinical Microbiology, and Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy freely available online. Free Workshops at the Wellcome Library (UK)
The new spring/summer programme of Wellcome Library workshops can be found on the Library website. The workshops provide introductions to information resources and research and are aimed at the general public.
The programme includes:
- thematic workshops such as science in the news, and the history of medicine on the internet
- training on specific resources such as the Wellcome Images database and PubMed Central
- and introductions to the Wellcome Archives and genealogical research resources at the library.

RefWorks launches mobile phone interface
"RefWorks has announced the launch of RefMobile, a new interface that enables students and researchers to use the RefWorks web-based research management service from anywhere, via web-enabled mobile phones, smart phones, and personal data assistants (PDAs). The RefMobile interface gives users immediate access to the most commonly used RefWorks functions, including searching their entire RefWorks databases, viewing references by folders, adding and removing references from folders, creating new folders, and adding comments to Notes fields. Users can also efficiently import new references to their RefWorks account using the new SmartAdd feature"
