Selections from the Naxi Manuscript Collection features ceremonial writings of the Naxi people of Yunnan Province, China. The Library of Congress’s Naxi collection is the largest outside of China and is considered one of the finest in the world. The Linda Hall Library, a private library of science, engineering, and technology in Kansas City, MO, has announced that it has acquired a 464-year old edition of Narratio Prima, by mathematician Georg Joachim Rheticus, a disciple of Copernicus. The book cost $1.5 million, paid for by the library's private funders. Published in Latin in 1540, the book is one of the few first editions still in existence. The book is now being displayed at the library and in an online edition

A major new literary prize is being launched, which will extend the scope of the Man Booker Prize for fiction internationally. The Man Booker International Prize will recognize one writer for their achievement in fiction.
